Understanding Entities

Entities are the core building blocks of your AI-answerable content

What are entities?

An entity is anything you want AI assistants to understand and cite: a product, service, brand, or location. Each entity gets its own AI-ready page, JSON-LD schema, and FAQ pack.

Think of entities as the "nouns" of your business—the specific things that people ask AI assistants about.

Entity Types

Product

Physical or digital products you sell

Examples:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • Nike Air Max 2024
  • Project Management SaaS

Best for: E-commerce, SaaS, physical goods

Service

Services you offer to customers

Examples:

  • Residential Cleaning
  • Digital Marketing Consulting
  • Personal Training Sessions

Best for: Service businesses, consultants, agencies

Brand

Your company or organization

Examples:

  • Apple Inc.
  • Your Startup Name
  • Local Restaurant Chain

Best for: Brand awareness, reputation management

Location

Physical locations like stores or offices

Examples:

  • Store in Dallas, TX
  • Headquarters in San Francisco
  • Manufacturing Plant

Best for: Local businesses, retail chains, offices

Best practices for defining entities

1. Be specific

Instead of "Running Shoes," use "Nike Air Max 2024 Women's Running Shoes Size 8." AI assistants work better with specificity.

2. Use consistent naming

Always use the official product name. If it's "iPhone 15 Pro," don't sometimes call it "iPhone Pro 15" or "i15 Pro."

3. Include synonyms and variants

Add common alternative names in the description or specs: "Also known as...", "Previously called...", "Model number..."

4. Provide complete context

AI assistants don't assume context. Include category, use case, target audience, and key differentiators in your description.

5. Keep it factual

Avoid marketing fluff like "best ever" or "revolutionary." Stick to verifiable facts and specifications.
